APG group postdoctoral fellow run the plate tectonic model at the University of Bern, Switzerland

23 August, 2021

In July 2021, Dr. Jakub Fedorik, a postdoctoral fellow from the APG group visited the analogue modelling laboratory at the University of Bern, Switzerland.

During this 10-days stay in Bern, Jakub and his collaborators Prof. Guido Scheurs and Dr. Frank Zwaan simulated the deformation along the southern Dead Sea Transform.

This new model reproduces morphology of the whole southern Dead Sea Transform, as well as structural styles variation that is observed along this plate boundary.

The model itself was scanned inside the CT scanner during the whole length of the deformation, which will permit the 4D analysis of faulted structures.

Jakub's model also highlights that there is no need for change in the plate boundary motion to form the Dead Sea Transform. Stay tuned for more results.
